Genève, Sestié/ Paris, Ferra, 1819. 8vo (212 x 135 mm). pp. viii, 384, with 24 engraved plates of fruit. Contemporary green boards, spine with gilt lines and red gilt lettered label.
Illustrated with very fine stipple-engraved plates by Maradan after drawings by Prêtre, except for the first plate which is signed Mademoiselle Joséphine Prêtre. "The book was first published in twelve parts, according to the signatures. The pretty plates show fruit with their leaves and flowers, from the apple to the pineapple, and the book was a sequel or rather a companion piece to 'La Corbeille de Fleurs' issued by the same publisher in the same year... The botanical sections of 'Le Panier de fruits' are well informed and mention contemporary research, while the literary accompaniments range from a poem based on Jauffret's prose to a translation of a moral tale by Maria Edgeworth". A fine uncut copy.
