only edition of this rare flora and florilegium, depicting the most beautiful native and exotic plants cultivated in Italy
A fine copy of the first and only edition of this rare flora and florilegium, depicting the most beautiful native and exotic plants cultivated in Italy. The excellent plates, drawn and engraved by Antonio Serantoni, were meant to rival the stipple-engraved works of Redouté. The images are quite striking and bold, and the colouring excellent, even though the engraving is a bit coarse. Savi (1769-1844) was curator (later director) of the Pisa botanical garden and museum and professor of botany there. Gaetano Savi wrote several works on the botany of Italy such as 'Flora Pisana', 'Botanicon Etruscum', 'Trattato degli alberi della Toscana'.
