A very rare item of a founding work of entomology describing many new genera and species. 42 platesconcern Geometrae and 18 Sphinges, the remaining concerns other groups. The complete work has 789 plates. "... Huebner's 'Sammlung Europaischer Schmetterlinge', is of basic importance in the taxonomy of Lepidoptera. During the period c. 1770-1850 a small group of Bavarian and Austrian entomologists (the central figure being Jacob Hübner) laid the foundations for the classification of Lepidoptera" (Gilbert, Butterfly Collectors and Painters p. 120).
