The plates of the present work are probably the finest ever made for a work on coleoptera
The rare coloured issues of this fundamental handbook on Coleoptera published some 20 years after Dejean & Boisduval's work on the Coleoptera of Europe. The plates of the present work are probably the finest ever made for a work on coleoptera. They were engraved after drawings by Jules Migneaux and splendidly coloured by Madame Mignaux and can hardly be surpassed in beauty and exactness by any other work of the period. Jacquelin du Val died at the early age of 34 and the work was continued by Fairmaire. Our copy contains the 'Catalogue de la Famille des Carabides' which is sometimes lacking. The plates are exceptionally clean. A fine complete copy.
