A superbly bound copy of the finest zoological work on Indonesia, the former Dutch East Indies. Thecomplete 'Verhandelingen...' comprises 3 volumes one concerning Ethnography, another Zoology and the last one Botany. Volumes could be purchased separately. Of the 102 plates 49 show mammals, including orang-outans and monkeys, 14 birds, 10 reptiles and amphibians, 6 fishes and 23 insects. The present volume was written by S. Mueller and H. Schlegel and edited by. C.J. Temminck. Temminck (1778-1858) was the founder and first director of the Leyden Natural History Museum and the author of a number of important ornithological works.
