Charles Sonnini de Manoncour (1751-1821) was a French naturalist and traveller. He is best known for his publication on Egypt. "In 1777 he joined the African expedition of Baron de Tott, and after remaining for some time in Egypt, travelled in Greece, the Aegean, and Turkey. He returned to France in 1780 and employed himself in the improvement of agriculture, introducing several exotic vegetables into the country "(Howgego p. 976). The present work is Sonnini's only botanical publication. Stafleu & Cowan 12.454.
