August Friedrich Schweigger (1783-1821) was a German naturalist. He remained several years in Paris where he became associated with scientists as G. Cuvier, Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire and C. Duméril. He was murdered in Sicily during a field excursion at the age of 38. The plates are drawn and engraved by F. Guimpel.
