The scarce volume on mammals of this important expedition to Mozambique

The scarce volume on mammals of this important expedition to Mozambique. 5 volumes were published, of which the present one is the most beautifully executed. "Soon Peters began to plan what was to become the major event of his life, an exploration of Mozambique, which had the enthusiastic support of Müller and of Alexander von Humboldt, then also at Berlin. ... The collections he made were enormous and were written up, mainly by himself... This was a model faunal work for its day - comprehensive, authoritative, and well illustrated" (Adler. Contr. Hist. of Herpetology, p. 37). Most of the splendidly handcoloured plates are after drawings by F. Wagner. A fine copy.
