RASOUMOVSKY, G. DE.
Observations Minéralogiques sur les environs de Vienne.
Vienne, Leopold Grund, 1822. 4to. pp. iv, 58, (2), with 10 handcoloured plates. Contemporary printed boards (spine rebacked).
This beautifully produced monograph deals to a large extend with fossils found in the surroundings of the Austrian capital Vienna. However mineralogical matters are also discussed widely. The attractive plates, some engraved and others lithographed show fossils and minerals. "Count Razumovsky (1759-1837) was a Russian nobleman and geologist. He built a collection of about 6,000 Russian mineral specimens, and also others from Germany and Switzerland, 'at great expense and over many years'. He later lived in Paris and Lausanne, and sold his collection to Georg Gibbs ca. 1800" (Wilson. The History of Mineral Collecting, p. 189). B.M.(Nat. Hist.)IV, 1657.
