The illustrations are splendid and belong to the finest made of the period.
A very rare florilegium. The present copy was sold by Sotheby's 27 February 1946 lot 671. According to Nissen BBI, 904 l'Art Ancien offered a copy in their catalogue 26 item 569. Johann Christoph Weigel was a German engraver and publisher. The Latin and German names of the plants are placed above the illustrations and at the foot, a line from the palms of David is followed by 4 lines of poetry. The illustrations are splendid and belong to the finest made of the period. Nürnberg was the centre for fine natural history art and book productions. Maria Sibylla Merian lived in Nürnberg from 1670 to 1682 and her ' Neues Blumenbuch' was published in 1680 in Nürnberg and Barbara Regina Dietsch was one of the many botanical artists. The present work is based on 'Lust- und Artzeney-Garten des Königlichen Propheten Davids. Regensburg 1675 by Wolfgang Helmhard von Hohberg. Strong and fine impressions of the plates, some marginal wormholes not touching the illustrations at the beginning of the book. A fine copy of this great rarity of which only a few copies seems to have survived.
