"Juan de Loureiro was one of the most devoted students of south-eastern Asiatic flora who went out from Europe ... Thus he accumulated a good herbarium of approximately 1000 species. He was not a professional botanist but had acquired good botanical knowledge to whom we owe one of the most important contributions concerning the flora of the eastern part of the trans Gangetic Peninsula and of South China."
